Carignan
Carignan is a red grape variety with Mediterranean roots, thriving in regions like southern France, Spain, and parts of Italy. Once known for high yields and bulk wine production, it has experienced a revival in recent years, with winemakers focusing on old vines to produce more concentrated, unique flavors.
The wines made from Carignan are typically medium-bodied with bright acidity and bold tannins. They offer flavors of red currant, cranberry, and spice, often with earthy or savory notes. While not as widely known as some other grapes, Carignan’s resurgence in regions like Languedoc and Priorat has solidified its place as a grape capable of producing unique and expressive wines.
